I don't have anything witty or even snarky to say, but I've been meaning to post this list for a long time. If you don't agree, just know that my personal experience has proved you wrong.
Based on a combination of food and service, these are the best sushi restaurants in Houston:
- Ginza Japanese Restaurant - I say with all sincerity that the service here is almost too good.
- Soma - Ok, maybe this should be first on the list but seriously I just went there yesterday for the first time.
- Sage 400
- 713 - Only downside would be the location (which is too say, too far west).
- Uptown Sushi - Great date place.
- Azuma
- Shimako
- Osaka (free appetizers + ice cream)
- Kubo's Sushi Bar
- Miyako
- Tokyohana
- Cafe Japon (yes, I know that it's a chain)
- Oishi
- Nori
- Wasabi
- Sushi King
- Benihana - Super cheap, but the service may be slipping.
- Blue Fish (poor service)
And these are the worst, ranked from mediocre to outright abysmal.
- Zushi - Slow, and no parking in front of the restaurant.
- Rickshaw
- RA Sushi Bar Restaurant - This, as well as the next two places on my list, are great places to hang out; but, that's about it.
- Zake - Really good music, if you like clubbing.
- Kona Grill
- The Fish - I may be forced to give this place a second chance, but it has yet to live up to all the hype.
- Todai
- Coco's Yakitori Sushi Bar - the food here is actually really good, which makes it a shame that the service is abysmal.
- Taiko - Do yourself a favor and never eat here. Ever.
